Job Description:


Accepting Applications for Academic Year 2023- 2024

Massasoit Community College is home to an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program. Adjunct faculty applicants in the veterinary technology pool will be invited to teach courses where they are best qualified based on their education, experience, and expertise in the appropriate content. Using department course outcomes, recommendations from the program director, and guidelines provided by the AVMA-CVTEA- accredited veterinary technology program, this position will develop and deliver course content using high quality pedagogical techniques to ensure maximum student success and learning.

Instruction includes assessment of student performance; instructional preparation; submission of final grades within required deadlines; availability to students by appointment; instruction of AVMA required essential skills. Courses with hands-on labs include both didactic and kinesthetic skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Prepare course syllabi that meets all contractual requirements.
  • Employ effective instructional strategies that promote student learning.
  • Ensure the course meets required course outcomes.
  • Use appropriate assessment tools to accurately measure student understanding.
  • Monitor email communications from students and the college and respond in a timely manner.
  • Provide availability outside of class to meet with and assist students.
  • Meet all deadlines for submission of grades, student participation reports, student grievance responses and other administrative documentation.

Additional responsibilities
  • Ensure appropriate training in laboratory safety for laboratory classes.
  • Follow divisional policies to maintain security of laboratory spaces, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with divisional staff.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to advisement and counseling.
  • Focuses on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.

Adjunct Faculty are part time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Positions may consist of day, night, or weekend positions and may be in Brockton, Canton, Middleborough, or any other instructional site.

Requirements:


  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician or DVM license (current)
  • Minimum of 3 years recent demonstrated experience with specific species and techniques taught in assigned coursework
  • Evidence of competence in the area of instruction/training/teaching
  • Knowledge of AVMA essential skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited program
  • More than 5 years in clinical practice
  • Experience teaching in a college setting



Additional Information:


Position Status: MCCC/MTA position

Supervisor: Dean of Science and Mathematics

Semester: Academic Year Fall 2023 and Spring 2024

Hours: Variable. Classes typically meet 3 - 6 hours per week.

Salary: $1,291 per credit, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites. Veterinary technology courses are primarily taught on the Canton campus. Labs may include off-site locations.
