Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join our research team as a Clinical Veterinarian. This unique opportunity allows you to contribute to both animal care and laboratory-based research. Our ideal candidate independently provides clinical care to research animals, participates in all aspects of the health and welfare of laboratory animals. The Clinical Veterinarian will be responsible for providing care to research animals in assigned facilities, including the observation of animals, diagnosis and treatment of clinical conditions, prescription and monitoring of necessary medications, and maintenance of animal health records. They will also assist researchers in protocol development, animal model selection and optimization, and proper animal care practices. Our veterinarians work with a wide range of animal models for human disease.

Responsibilities
PEssential Functions
  • Provides care to research animals in assigned areas, including the observation of animals, diagnosis and treatment of clinical conditions, prescription and monitoring of necessary medications, and maintenance of animal health records.
  • Provides anesthesia and surgical support as well as postoperative care for clinical and research procedures.
  • Assists researchers in protocol development, animal model selection and optimization, and proper animal care practices.
  • Provides IACUC veterinary review and assists in facility inspections, policy development, and other related activities.
  • Assists the Director in maintaining compliance with animal care regulations.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with departmental personnel, research staff, and institutional administrators.
  • Evening and weekend clinical coverage is required and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies is essential.






Minimum Qualifications
  • DVM/VMD degree and a U.S. license to practice veterinary medicine, ability to obtain licensure in the state of Utah, ability to obtain a DEA registration, and completion of a formal postdoctoral Laboratory Animal Medicine residency program required.
  • Two years' related experience
