POSITION: Assistant Professor of Veterinary Science and Technology, twelve-month, tenure-track
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2025 or until filled.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position will be 75% percent teaching in the Department of Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources and 25% outreach and consulting responsibilities with Weakley County Farmers Co-Op. Teaching responsibilities may include both online and traditional classroom responsibilities. Course topics can include, but are not limited to: Livestock Management, Companion Animal Management, Animal Health, Parasitology, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, Anesthesia, Veterinary Nursing and with a focus on Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Technology. Graduate teaching opportunities available. Other teaching responsibilities include undergraduate student advising, developing curriculum, serving on university, college, and department committees and student recruitment. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in collaborative research and public service with other faculty. Responsibilities for Co-Op will include outreach, consulting, and large animal ambulatory care, etc. for members of Weakley County Farmers Co-Op.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Must have earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee. Both large and small animal experience is essential. Applicant must be able to work with and handle large and small animals. Minimum of three years' experience in private veterinary practice and one year's experience working with large and small animals. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well with colleagues, staff, students, and student organizations. Successful candidate must be willing to relocate to the immediate area to provide timely service as needed for university and Co-Op related veterinary responsibilities.
Preferred College level teaching experience. Degree(s) in some area of Animal Science or board certification in an AVMA recognized clinical specialty. Preferred candidate should have extensive experience working with licensed veterinary technicians. The preferred candidate should have excellent skills in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, experience in recruiting students and curriculum development. A broad understanding and experience in large animal, small animal, and exotic medicine would be an asset. Advanced training in large animal medicine and reproduction would be a strength.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources at UT Martin offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources Management. Concentrations in Agriculture include: Agricultural Business, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Plant and Soil Science, and Agricultural Engineering Technology. Concentrations in Natural Resources Management include: Wildlife Biology, Park and Recreation Administration, Environmental Management, and Soil and Water Conservation. Pre-professional programs are offered in Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine. Current enrollment is 985 students with 28 full-time faculty and staff members. The Department operates a 650 acre teaching complex to support faculty class and laboratory needs.
