Job Summary
We invite you to join the innovative and diverse faculty at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine (WesternU-CVM). We are seeking a colleague to contribute to the college's mission to educate veterinary professionals and advance knowledge to address the contemporary needs of society. This team member will:

  • Provide content expertise in Pharmacology, contributing to scholarly advancement of the science, and incorporating this discipline in the veterinary curriculum.
  • Assume various teaching roles, when required, to meet curricular demands and as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Provide support in the training of students in all levels of the DVM curriculum.
  • Serve on college and university standing committees.

    This position reports to the Dean. Academic activities are supervised by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; research activities are supervised by the Associate Dean for Research; and professional activities are supervised by the Executive Associate Dean.

    4. Knowledge of educational needs for contemporary veterinary practice.
    5. Knowledge and skills in his/her discipline.



    Required Qualifications
    EDUCATION: An earned Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, PharmD, or equivalent degree is required. Diplomate status or eligibility for certification examination in Veterinary Pharmacology, or equivalent advanced training, is desirable. EXPERIENCE: The college is seeking an optimal match between individual qualifications and assessed ability to contribute to the Colleges mission. All qualified candidates will be considered.

    Job Duty
    1. Contribute to the training of veterinary students in Pharmacology (35% FTE):
    a. Participate in the curricular activities for Year 1 and 2 students, including but not limited to content expertise in Pharmacology, facilitation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) activities, clinical skills laboratories, and other ancillary activities as determined in the curriculum development process. 
    b. Provide leadership and/or instruction for Year 3 and 4 clinical activities.

    2. Pursue scholarly endeavors and professional self-development, with opportunities to engage in research, as negotiated (60% FTE):
    a. Develop a self-sustaining research program.
    b. Participate in the development of post-DVM training programs.
    c. Participate in the research mentoring of veterinary students.
    d. Participate in local, national, and/or international continuing education programs

    3. Participate in college and university committees. Represent the college to external persons and agencies, including funding agencies (5% FTE).

    Duties of the Faculty Member are normally performed in a typical office setting, classroom setting, or laboratory setting. Depending on individual professional specialty, curriculum duties may require different environmental settings which may include, but is not limited to classrooms, farms, clinical practices, research and academic laboratories, and other off campus settings. Occasionally the employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in these settings is usually moderate due to telephone calls, office equipment, normal student traffic, and depending on species - animal noises. Some travel is required, and work environment characteristics will change to that of the regional norms. Virtual delivery of the curriculum might be considered based on the characteristics of the needs of the curriculum for this discipline.
