Job Description Summary
Ryan Hospital is seeking a skilled Veterinary Nurse Coordinator to join our Internal Medicine team.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

Nursing
  • Client education at discharge (how to administer insulin, side effects of trilostane overdose, use of E-tube, how to give SC fluid, etc.).
  • Assist with discharges, and explain discharge instructions to client.
  • Phone consultation for outpatient owners (does pet need to come in today as an emergency? Tomorrow as an appointment?)
  • Prescription refills for outpatients
  • Communication updates with owners regarding in-house patients
  • LDVM communication and updates of patient status and results of diagnostic tests, regarding in-house patients
  • Assist in the coordination of the Internal medicine clinics and procedures.
  • Perform sedation on patients requiring radiology
  • Submit requests for radiology, anesthesia, consults (neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology) and endoscopy
  • Become proficient with techniques such as bone marrow aspirates, tracheal washes, joint taps, E-tube placements, and endoscopy.
  • Transport or arrange for transport of admitted appointment cases to the wards for blood draws and other tests or to fluids if they are admitted for more than a day.
  • Transport or arrange for transport of patients to radiology or delegate a student to do so.
  • Assist in sedation of medicine patients in radiology
  • Coordinate the medicine students to maximize the contribution of each student to the service, at all times.
  • If your service is slow or there are no clinic appointments on a particular day, you may be assigned to help in medicine treatment room or with other high maintenance medicine cases. This will be under the direction of the Director of Nursing after consultation with the Internal Medicine Service.
  • Contribute to the Ryan Hospital Nursing Holiday Schedule as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Appointments
  • Verify that all necessary equipment and supplies are always available in the exam rooms.
  • At clinicians' discretion, be available to help handling animals, type discharge on HIS portal, get drugs from pharmacy, transfer case to other service for a consultation
  • Assist with the scheduling of nurse appointments to ensure they are appropriately scheduled.
  • Make sure charges are complete and submitted to the business office

Consultations
  • Act as a liaison between sections
  • Inform clinician on duty whenever a consultation is requested and be available to help with the case
  • Make sure that consultations are being charged; forms filled in and handed over to the Business office.

Administrative Duties
  • Maintain phone call book log and notify any clinician if they need to call back a client/referring veterinarians.
  • Provide your time sheet to service supervisor or Director of Nursing every Thursday for signatures.
  • Stocking of necessary supplies.


Qualifications:

- Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician.

- Minimum 3 years of experience in Veterinary Medicine.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to multi-task while paying close attention to detail

- Thrive under a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding work environment

- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment

- Excellent organizational skills essential

- Willing to learn sedation and other skills.

- An ability to evolve with the position.

Veterinary Nurse C- 3-5 years of relevant experience and CVT

Veterinary Nurse D- 5+ years of relevant experience and CVT

Veterinary Nurse E: 8 + years of relevant experience and CVT

Target Pay Ranges

Veterinary Nurse C: Targeted Pay Range: $17.98/hour - $31.65/hour

Veterinary Nurse D: Targeted Pay Range: $20.45/hour - $36.00/hour

Veterinary Nurse E: Targerted Pay Range: $24.13/hour - $40.00/hour
