The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, Section of Cardiology invites applications for a Part-Time Clinical Associate position in Small Animal Cardiology. Clinical Associates are members of the University academic support staff who participate in teaching, research, or clinical service, but are not eligible for appointment to the standing or associated faculty. The academic support staff position requests a clinical commitment of a minimum of 8 consecutive weeks. The position is anticipated to begin August 2022; however, dates and durations of commitment are negotiable.

Candidates must have a veterinary degree, internship training, residency training in small animal cardiology and be board certified by the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology). Diversity candidates and candidates with previous academic clinical experience are encouraged to apply.

The clinical associate will provide part-time clinical service within the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital according to a negotiated and mutually agreeable schedule, a minimum of 8 weeks is preferred but other timeframes can be negotiated as needed. The successful candidate's primary responsibilities are clinical teaching, clinical service, and resident mentoring within the Section of Cardiology. Clinical Associate appointments are interim and contingent on satisfactory performance and without tenure or tenure significance. Part-time clinical associates are not eligible for university health and retirement benefits.

The successful candidate will enjoy a wealth of opportunities in providing clinical service and participating in clinical cardiology research in a highly collaborative and productive environment. The Section of Cardiology employs one ACVIM board-certified cardiologist and two dual ACVIM/ECVIM boarded cardiologists. There are currently three (3) residents enrolled in the cardiology residency training program. The section also employs a cardiology research fellow whose responsibility is to facilitate clinical research and trials, which primarily involve client-owned animals. More than 30 American and European Diplomates of numerous certifying Colleges operate within the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital and support the Section of Cardiology. The successful candidate will have ample opportunity to work with the cardiology faculty in collaborations with intramural units such as the Perelman School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as well as a variety of extramural collaborators at veterinary schools across the US and world.
