Job Description:


The Veterinary Technology Program is accepting applications for the following adjunct faculty vacancy for the Fall 2022 semester:

VTSC 240 - Veterinary Anesthesia and Surgery

This course provides students with principles and practical experience related to surgical nursing, anesthesia, and analgesia. Topics include: preanesthetic patient evaluation; anesthetic and analgesic drugs; induction and inhalant agents; aseptic preparation of the surgical patient and operating room; anesthetic induction, maintenance, and recovery; patient monitoring; common surgical procedures; anesthetic and surgical complication; and small animal cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Functions
  • Prepare course syllabi that meet all contractual requirements.
  • Schedule classes to meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester.
  • Employ effective instructional strategies that promote student learning.
  • Ensure the course meets required course outcomes
  • Use appropriate assessment tools to accurately measure student understanding.
  • Monitor email communications from students and the college, and respond in a timely manner.
  • Provide availability outside of class to meet with and assist students.
  • Meet all deadlines for submission of grades, student participation reports, student grievance responses and other administrative documentation.

Additional responsibilities
  • Manage a level of flexibility that holds students accountable, and recognizes the challenging work/school/life balance led by many students at Massasoit.
  • Ensure appropriate training in laboratory safety for laboratory classes.
  • Follow divisional policies to maintain security of laboratory spaces, chemicals and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with divisional staff.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to advisement and counseling.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.

Adjunct Faculty are part time instructors hired on an as needed basis. Positions may consist of day, night, or weekend positions and may be in Brockton, Canton, Middleborough, or any other instructional site.

Requirements:


  • Must be a credentialed veterinary technician or licensed doctor of veterinary medicine
  • Must have expertise in veterinary surgical assisting and anesthesia
  • Must be capable of overseeing hands-on learning while assisting in a live surgery
  • Associate degree or higher
  • Must be knowledgeable in course content
  • Recent work experience related to course content
  • Teaching experience in higher education and/or at the community college level is strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body
  • Ability to contribute to a positive and supportive team culture

Hours: Monday/Wednesday; 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM

Salary: $1,291 per credit, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
